Designer Philissa Williams holding watermelon cake

Having worked in the food and fashion industry for over 20 years, Philissa has seen the amount of waste from production and construction in both sectors. Wanting to move away from the inefficiency and overproduction issues in these industries, Thembe was created.

Sourcing leftover material from big brands or upcycling secondhand items, Philissa limits the impact she makes on the environment .

As a true creative, Philissa lets her materials and produce do the talking. She goes with what the textile wants her to do.

The result? Wearable art. Her pieces accentuate a woman’s silhouette and enhance their natural beauty and style, all while being comfortable and classic with a hint of sex appeal.

Each item is made for life - designed for quality with a promise that she will mend any piece, if/when a thread comes undone. And if you ever want to change or alter a Thembe piece, why not join one of our workshops where you can upcycle your item yourself or exchange it at our Clothing Swaps?
